Origins - Developed in Japan in the 1930s, a cross between Worcester Pearmain, and Jonathan.
Also known as Tokyo Rose or Tokyo Surprise.
Type - Multi-purpose fruit, great for fresh eating, cooking, pies, and juice.
Season - It flowers mid-late season and should be harvested early - mid season
Size & Shape - Heavy crop of good-sized fruit.
Colour - Bright red skinned, heirloom apple with white flesh. Makes lovely apple chips as the flesh is white and doesn't easily oxidize. Children also love it due to the bright red flesh.
Taste - Fruit has a very good blend of flavour ranging from sweet to sharp. The flesh is firm rather than crisp, but with plenty of juice.
Storage - Best eaten or cooked fresh, does not store well but can be left to hang on the tree.
Pollination - Requires a pollinator such as Liberty,Golden Delicious, Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Cox’s orange, Red delicious.
