Scrubby deciduous bush (which can be trained to cordons or standards) with dark red (black when fully ripe) gooseberry-like fruit for eating fresh, making wine or jam. Excellent cropper. Very thorny. Prefers well drained, moist soil in sun or semi-shade. Frost hardy. Grows to approximately 2m.
