Fast growing Native NZ tree with edible berries that can be made into jam or drinks. Semi-deciduous in winter. The trees are dioecious (male and female on different plants). Pink flowers followed by black edible berries in early summer. Great to shelter, bird or human fodder. Likes moist, well drained soil. Early Māori used the bark for medicine.
