Russian Comfrey - Symphytum x uplandicum
A valuable companion plant for any food producing garden. Bee fodder, medicinal and a dynamic accumulator for composting practices. The deep tap-root of comfrey brings up nutrients from down below (namely nitrogen, phosporus and potassium) and when the leaves are broken down on the top soil in autumn/winter- those nutrients are then put back into the cycle. The plant can be cut down several times per year to add valuable nutrients back to the garden. The leaves can also be used to make liquid fertiliser. The roots and leaves have medicinal uses. It can be used to knit wounds and damaged tissues back to health. The russian variety is a perennial that dies right down over winter and will erupt in spring and grow up to a height of 75cm when in flower.
