Origins -Mrs. Emma Peasgood (born 1844) planted five apple seeds in Grantham, Lincolnshire, in 1860; only one grew. The tree produced very large, attractive and tasty apples, winning a first prize in 1872 and was famously named the same year.
Type - Dual purpose but mostly used for cooking. Cooks to a sweet and delicately flavoured puree and bakes well.
Season - Mid-late season.

Colour - The base color is green or yellow-green, which deepens to an orange-yellow with short, bright red stripes.
Taste - Juicy and firm, crunchy with a sweet-tart balance.
Storage - Can be stored for 2 months in cold storage.
