Beautiful Blackcurrants

The tiny fruit that packs a punch.

Blackcurrants are a must have in the edible garden and Unlike their red counterpart they are so versatile in the kitchen and the uses are almost endless. They are also packed full of nutrients and vitamin c and antioxidants!

We've been making room in the freezer removing blackcurrants from last season.
I've been making jam and blackcurrant gin this time round.
Some other uses for them that we've also done include:

Blackcurrant Jam
Blackcurrant jelly
Make a compote and stir through cheesecake or fruit cake.
Blackcurrant sorbet
Blackcurrant chutney - sweet and spicy is awesome with pancakes.
Blackcurrant cordial - can be drunk with water, sparkling water, bubbles, kombucha.
Dehydrated Blackcurrants and leaves for tea
Dehydrated Blackcurrants for baking or grind to make powder (great taste!)
Freeze whole and add to smoothies, muffins or baking
Cook down with apples for a pie filling or make a crumble.
Cook and puree with apples and other fruit then dehydrate to make fruit leather.
Blackcurrant wine or flavoured spirits. Gin and vodka are good.

2 or 3 plants is more than enough to make some yummies for your pantry.
With groceries becoming more expensive why not grow your own?
